Mission
For ten days in October, a curated group of artists from around the globe will travel to Washington, DC to paint larger-than-life murals at our annual celebration of art and creativity. The outdoor festival launched originally in 2016, and is the local chapter of the World Wide Walls Family based in Hawai’i. The international mural festival returns under a new banner D.C. Walls. DC Walls is Directed and curated by artist Kelly Towles.
Since its founding in Hawai’i of 2010 by Jasper Wong, the festival has expanded and grown into a global network of artists. It organizes the production of art, exhibitions, lecture series, creative community spaces, schools for art and music, concerts, and live art installations across the globe.
SHARING IDEAS
DC Walls brings artists together from the far corners of the country and throughout the world to create larger than life works of art. Murals from artists, who may only visit Washington, DC this one time, live on long after they've left.
EDUCATE THE COMMUNITY
Every year, our festival bursts onto the scene, welcoming new faces and celebrating all aspects of our community. We're passionate about sharing the spirit of DC and working together to beautify our shared spaces. Join us and be part of the magic!
Together we are beautifying our community with vibrant new murals, fostering creativity through panel discussions and film screenings, guided tours and celebrating the festival with our opening day. All our events we work to make them free and open to the public for all to enjoy.
BEAUTIFY THE CITY
DC Walls is an annual celebration of art and creativity that transforms Washington, DC with vibrant murals. Each year, a curated group of international and local artists come together to paint these artistic masterpieces on walls throughout the city. This unique program not only beautifies the cityscape but also fosters cultural exchange and appreciation for public art.
INSPIRE YOUTH
Our family friendly opening event gives the youth a chance to get involved. Families and groups of friends can come and be inspired, eat, drink and dance and then venture out into the neighborhood to tour the mural sites as artists work. We hope to inspire the next crop of creators in Washington, DC.
